4* Review for Wake The Union in the FT

October 28th 2012

4* review for Wake The Union by David Honigmann in Saturday’s Financial Times Life & Arts section (online version “paywalled”).

The duo returns with less anger and more music ranging from jazz shuffles to slide guitar baiting“:
On 2009’s banker-bashing Arrogance Ignorance And Greed, Steve Knightley sounded thinned out by anger. He has refound his voice here, whether on the home territory of “Cruel River” (the Dart) or on the Louisiana lament “Katrina”. The music ranges from a Richard-Thompson jazz shuffle on “Company Town” to slide guitar baiting Cecil Sharp on “Aunt Maria”; “Stop Copying Me” turns a suspicious eye on the life virtual and digital.

Wake The Union reaches #73 in the Official Album Chart

October 22nd 2012

Bizarrely sandwiched between Jay-Z with Kanye West and the Best of INXS this is the first time a Show of Hands album has charted in the Top 75 of the Official Album Chart.
With alt-folk/acoustic acts like the Mumfords, Jake Bugg, Ed Sheeran, Ben Howard and Bellowhead (brilliant, guys) giving the X-Factored crowd a run for their money we’re in good company.

Thanks to all of you out there for buying the album and supporting us.

If you’ve already bought it then spread the word to friends and through your social networking.

October 16th 2012

Review by Martin Chilton Culture Editor of The Telegraph:
“This is the 13th studio album by Show Of Hands but it’s not unlucky and they show no signs of running dry of creative energy. …….class always shows as it does on Wake The Union.” Full article here

The Long Way Home

The landmark new release sees the band returning to their musical folk roots.

Show of Hands are undeniably one of the strongest current forces in acoustic music - England's finest and most popular roots duo and something of a "people's band".
