Show of Hands serenade William Hague on BBC 1’s Andrew Marr Show

February 9th 2011

Show of Hands performed their acutely topical, BBC award-winning Arrogance Ignorance and Greed live on the Andrew Marr Show on Sunday – in front of studio guests including Foreign Minister William Hague. Watch here on YouTube.

Their appearance on BBC-1’s flagship political programme was applauded by Hague, chair of the Equality and Human Rights Commission Trevor Phillips and Marr who introduced Show of Hands as “one of my favourite bands” and “the pride of the West Country”.

Steve, Phil and Miranda performed Steve’s perpetually topical song – which blasts bankers and bonuses, MPs and expenses.  With MPs being convicted of expenses fraud and more coming to court, it’s a song that remains apt. Says Steve: “It seems to be a song that is constantly refreshing itself.”

Appropriately it was performed on national TV on the last day of its “reign” as the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards “Best Original Song” which it won in 2010. The 2011 BBC Folk Awards took place in London on Monday..
