CLIC Benefit gig at Barnfield Theatre, Exeter

Thursday, 4 March, 2010

Steve & Phil plus friends will be doing a fundraising concert for CLIC at the Barnfield Theatre, Exeter on Sunday 21 March. Concert starts at 7.30pm and the phone number for tickets is 01626 832176. There are 3 specialist paediatric cancer nurses and 1 social worker funded by CLIC and the RD&E on Bramble ward, who work with the kids with cancer.

The work ranges from giving chemotherapy treatment and care on the ward, to going out into the community to homes and schools taking blood counts, supporting teachers and school friends with information about cancer and generally ensuring that the child and family have as much help and continuity of care with as little disruption to their lives as possible, despite the devastating diagnosis of cancer.

We also nurse through palliative care in the home and hospital and support families through the months after the death of their child.

Our social worker has a valuable role in ensuring that families get all the financial, educational and wider issue help that they need through the treatment period.

Bristol is the principle treatment centre which is where many of the children will spend their first few weeks of diagnosis before continuing the rest of their care with us and CLIC provide a ‘home from home’ house where families can stay together and also be near to their child on the ward.
